Stay away from this app! They have 0 buyer protection and even still they will CHARGE you a buyer protection fee. I ordered a bunch of trading cards, the seller shipped poorly and my package arrived completely open with no tape or anything. Cards missing, tin dented. Mercari refused to refund me because I bought a “lot.” Their customer service is rude and could care less about their consumers. On top of that they won’t even let me rate the seller now to warn anyone else buying from them. They need to have a class action lawsuit opened on them.
The rating process should be reduced to 24hrs or completely eliminated. Not every seller has 72hrs to wait for their funds to clear. The sales tax is absurd aswell; Taking nearly 50% of earnings. If these adjustments were handled properly the app would get an easy 5 stars. Hopefully this gets the attention it needs.
. Overall the app is 3 out of 5. Appearances could use a refresh. There is no place to make a suggestion for app improvements or features. Which brings me to why i started the review in the first place. The app will make suggestions i hope are based on your searches or browsing data, which is pretty obvious that they don’t. Anytime i ever glance at the “For You” content suggestions; there is no consideration for your Sizes, which you provide to them and also i find articles that aren’t even for my gender or from brands that i follow. Please improve your algorithms.

I’ve been a high volume seller on the app for 5 years. Lately they have really failed all of us. They let people get away with scamming the sellers here. Today they refused to give me my money even tho I proved the buyer sent me a damaged item. They also allow buyers to get their money back when they are lying. They have zero help or support when it happens so today I lost the item and the money. Then they banned me because I wanted to know why they stole money. So good luck guys. Mercari is a dying app anyway. People want to pay $3 for a $200 item. Mercari is a joke now.

Ordered an item that was coming from NY to VA. When I ordered it said it would arrive on the 16th, 1 day after I ordered the item. On the 22nd the item still had not arrived despite the seller shipping it less than 8 hours after I purchased it. Also on the 22nd the tracking updated to say that it would be delivered on the 20th. The date never updated again, even when the item was out for delivery. The dishonesty about the shipping time from Mercari hurts both sellers and customers by setting utterly unrealistic expectations. I’ll be uninstalling today as I am sure this review will fall on deaf ears.
For the last six weeks (or maybe longer, I’ve just started really paying attention), anything I list shows active in my selling tab but when I do a search for the brand - absolutely NONE of my listings show up in the searches. I’ve tried ordered them from newest listings and they don’t show at all through my whole scroll. They only show 1-2 views and I know that’s just my view because I’ve been doing in an editing to try to make sure I’m hitting keywords in the title, brand names, proper photos. Nothing I do is allowing my listings to be seen. I’m only trying to sell my children’s clothing and they are boutique specific brand names but searches don’t bring up anything I’ve posted. I might make one sale a month now, and I’ve been a Mercari buyer and seller since 2016. Absolutely no customer service - just canned AI email responses that aren’t helpful or personalized. This app has become a waste of time!!!
Whenever I want anything, I look on Mercari to see if someone is selling it for a good price.
i shipped an item, double wrapped. did all the precautionary measures as a seller. the item itself is worth 98$. the shipping company completely demolished the bag and my item was ruined. now they get to return my damaged - unusable item because of it. i just lost money and my product. “shipping protection” does NOT work. 10/10 recommend poshmark over mercari.
Mercari has been hands down the worst app to sell on. I've had lost packages, people trying to lie about items etc; and Mercari never refunds me my money. I've had two lost packages in transit confirmed by the carrier, Mercari gets refunded by the carrier and then they are supposed to refund us. Well they don't and they keep the money. You could make great money, if your willing to deal with the negative side to selling. Mercaris customer service is also TERRIBLE. it's like speaking to a robot and who has absolutely no idea what your saying.

Mercari is a platform that does not protect buyers at all. I bought an item that the seller claimed was gold, but in reality, it was just bronze. When I tried to return the item, they denied my request because I had sent it for an authenticity check. Their policy is absurd: if you want to verify that the item is genuine and you send it for evaluation or ask someone else to appraise it, the return automatically becomes invalid. This is completely unfair! Mercari’s rules create a safe space for scammers: people can sell you junk while convincing you it’s something valuable, and you have no way to protect yourself. If you buy a fake? If you get scammed? According to them, it’s your fault because you “damaged” the item by verifying it. This is insane! I tried to explain the situation to customer support—that the item wasn’t what I paid for—but they just kept sending canned responses and nobody even tried to help. It’s a shame that such a large platform allows scammers to cheat people without consequences. I will never buy anything here again, and I strongly advise everyone to be very cautious.

There’s a lot of counterfeit stuff. You only have 3 days to make authentications on items. Out of all the purchases I had so far, just 2 have been authentic and as described. Deleting this app after I receive my last order.
I sold my barely used Dyson airwrap to someone who was a scammer. After I called them out on the scam, they sent back my Dyson damaged and dirty. Mercari customer service failed to do anything.
I like it but it doesn’t seem like it has an ease of use. I Signed up because I heard it’s a good app and even registered then it kicked me off . I had to email. I do appreciate customer support was helpful they said it was accidental. I know they fixed it but I hope they fix this problem because It takes time adding items back. I had to redo everything and it definitely wasn’t fun to go through it was time consuming. If it happens again I probably won’t go through all that a second time.
Ive had no issues with this app when I purchased something years ago. Now all of sudden I have an issue after the 72 hour rating time frame. NO TYPE OF CUSTOMER SUPPORT AT ALL. The Seller refuses to answer or even help. The customer service help center does not care for their customers. Ive been calling the help line to get some type of help and all I received is the basic repeated answers. DONT BUY NOR SELL ON THIS APP!! I cant even report the seller for scam because they sold me an electronic that has a software I can not remove.
Every new update makes the app slower and also worse at the same time. The new "deals" tab is absolutely unacceptable. ANYTHING ANYONE PROMOTES could be considered a "deal" and there's a permanent red dot there to try to make you click it, but there is nothing but jewelry and clothes and junk I would NEVER buy on there. THAT IS NOT A DEAL. I am on Mercari for collectibles, not clothing or art or home decorations, NOTHING that Mercari suggests to me matches any of my past sales or purchases which actually reflect MY INTERESTS. There is also no way to turn off Japanese results. I will never, ever buy anything from overseas with a near $30 shipping fee. We should be able to express this in some way in the app and DISABLE Japanese results in searches and elsewhere. We should be allowed to opt-out of the deals tab claiming you have new deals when you do not. I've been on mercari for YEARS and it just keeps getting less intuitive and slower and slower. PLEASE STOP ADDING IN THESE STUPID FEATURES NOBODY ASKED FOR THAT SLOW DOWN THE APP!!!! I would spend FAR more time browsing to buy if the app ACTUALLY WORKED and didn't harass me to buy things I would NEVER BUY.
Sellers beware on how you weigh packages. Mercari charged me for extra shipping as the weight claimed to be off (not sure how a Coach purse can be 5 pounds). What was supposed to be a consider profit from a sale dwindled down to $2 for the sale due to their charging to correct for shipping costs. Won’t be selling again on this platform.
I listed a single cologne i bought from amazon. it is 100% authentic. I have receipt, tracking, verification tag etc. I listed it up and 1 minute later it was taken down via Mercari’s algorithm bot. Weird because other people are selling this product, i priced it at what it recommended me, then it got taken down. I tried to appeal with a receipt and verification but my account got closed not much long after. didn’t even have the app for 2 hours before it stopped me from selling, and banned me. This could be a facebook marketplace competitor, and i mean a REAL competitor but its detection bot is killing its own user base. garbage algorithm, no fast reply’s, instant ban. 1/5 2 hour experience I had.

help center/support is USELESS. they do not help whatsoever, i’ve tried 3 times to verify my ID and it refuses to let me, i have orders pending and i can’t ship them out because mercari refuses to give me my shipping label. HELP!!
Complains about VPN or WiFi even if I am using neither. Can’t log in. Guess I won’t be using Mercari.

Why are they taking a cut of your sales if they do not offer seller protection?! No point in paying them or using the platform better off selling someplace else. I made a sale over $100 which got lost in transit and they reimbursed the buyer but refused to reimburse me. Anything that’s out of your control you will be taking the fall for, so there is no point in using this platform. They don’t care about their sellers and won’t protect you. That’s the whole point of using a platform like this and letting them take a %, because they will help mediate the sale and protect both buyer and seller. Which they don’t ! So what are us sellers even paying them for !?! Better off selling on Posh where you’re protected if you get scammed or if postal carrier loses your package.

I feel like this is not talked about enough. Sometimes buyers leave false bad reviews because they are upset and there’s literally nothing that we can do about them. I had a buyer send me a lowball offer twice which I declined because they were wanting me to sell them a extremely rare and expensive bag for dirt cheap after I declined it the second time they end up just purchasing the bag for full price but when it came time to review, they left me a bad review saying that the shipping was bad and I took forever to respond even though me and the buyer never exchanged messages !!! only conversation between me & the buyer weee the 2 offers that I declined and they said item was dirty and etc even though that was not true !
Wow this app started off by taking 2 dollars in commission and got too happy and now charge almost 11 dollars for your sale ?!! Ridiculous!!!! Please boycott this app !!
Good app, but cannot justify selling much on it anymore when the selling fees have returned to 10% + whatever else. It was changed to 0% for a reason. Why change it back to 10%? Also, your entire organization somehow missed that there’s nine whole increments between these two numbers…?

As a buyer it’s very frustrating when the seller doesn’t ship out the item like they are supposed to. Then they are given more time before the buyer can get a refund! Which they shouldn’t! As a seller the fees we are charged are horrible!

Mercari simplifies the process of selling items, making it accessible even for newcomers to online selling. However, I frequently encounter numerous bugs within the app, and it seems they’re inconsistent with their pricing structure for both buyers and sellers. Personally, I feel that the commission they take from sellers is a bit excessive, especially given the frequent technical issues. Currently, I have a bundled item that was canceled by a buyer, only for the same user to bundle and purchase it again. While the original bundle still appears in my selling list, it fails to load, and I can't remove it, leaving it stuck there. This is just one of many glitches I've experienced over the past two years. While they do address these bugs eventually, the response time could be improved. On a positive note, the platform is very user-friendly, making it easy to list items for sale and purchase items as well.
Whether buying or selling, I’ve never had anything other than positive experiences with Mercari. I’ve been a seller on Mercari for over 5 years. I appreciate that Mercari looks out for its sellers and buyers. Best Selling platform hands down. I do hope that they eliminate seller fees again in the future—that was a huge blessing. I also hope Mercari promotes my listings a little more, other than that—I’m highly satisfied.
Apparently the seller is always in wrong for when a claim is filed for return! And then told they didn’t follow correct “shipping protection guidelines”, well how not? Oh yeah wait another five more days to hear back. This app is a joke and don’t give sellers enough protection or input in a claim. Apparently buyers voices or evidence are the only ones heard on this app. What a joke!!!!!
